Instructions

Instructions for use of Hydrocolloid Wound Dressing

Hydrocolloid Wound Dressing are used to protect wounds, promote healing, and maintain a moist environment.

Follow these steps for proper application:

1. Preparation

Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water or use gloves.

Clean the wound with a saline solution or as directed by a healthcare provider.

Pat the wound and surrounding skin dry with sterile gauze.

Ensure the skin around the wound is free of oils, lotions, or creams to help the dressing adhere properly.

2. Choosing the Right Size

Select a dressing that extends at least 1 inch (2.5 cm) beyond the wound edges to ensure proper coverage and adherence.

3. Applying the Dressing

Remove the protective backing without touching the adhesive side.

Gently place the dressing over the wound, ensuring full contact with the skin.

Smooth the edges to ensure a secure seal and prevent leaks.

4. Monitoring the Dressing

Leave the dressing in place for up to 3-7 days, depending on wound condition and manufacturer guidelines.

Observe for signs of leakage, excessive swelling, or infection (redness, pus, foul odor).

If the dressing starts to peel off before the recommended time, replace it.

5. Removing the Dressing

Gently lift one corner of the dressing and slowly stretch it outward (not upward) to break the seal.

If necessary, use warm water or saline to help loosen the adhesive.

Dispose of the used dressing properly and wash your hands.

6. When to Change the Dressing

  • If it becomes saturated with fluid or starts leaking.
  • If it no longer adheres properly.
  • If there are signs of infection (pain, heat, swelling, or increased drainage).

Precautions

  • Do not use on infected wounds unless advised by a healthcare professional.
  • Avoid using on wounds with heavy exudate or deep tunneling.
  • Stop using if signs of an allergic reaction (rash, itching, irritation) appear.
